Blizz sent out a mass of emails with trial keys inside.

If any OSYer wants mine, just holler, and I'll get your hooked up with the beta installer (which will work with the release once patched) or some form of the game CDs, plus as many patches as possible beforehand to get you up and running ASAP.

It's a good time to start, Magus just joined us, and him, Jujube, and myself have been having a blast levelling up together. Very Happy (When I'm not out with the big kids dying to big snake-worms that send my mage flying 30 feet...)

The only problem I feel these free keys have - you can't join a guild, and you can't use the mail or Auction House. All of which imo make the game so very much better. (But I have found ways around giving money to trial accounts, and there's always Teamspeak or IRC. Wink)

I'd like to try it out, but if someone else is hankerin' for it more than I am then by all means pass it out that way.

I guess I could fire up mIRC and do this in real-time.

I got one from DeAthe.

Like MotH, I'm also concerned that I'll get hooked, which is part of the reason I haven't gone out and simply bought it already.

I look at the monthly fee this way.

It's the cost of 1 movie and 1 bag of popcorn.

I usually get more than 4 hours of enjoyment out of it.

I ain't touching WoW with a ten foot pole. I KNOW I'LL BE ADDICTED TO IT. No way. I used to love playing the original Warcraft game, and man did it suck the youth out my teenage years. Razz
None the less, I hope you guys are enjoying one of the best games/series ever made. Smam to you all! Smile

This is exactly my reason too. I probably have time to spend on it, I just don't have the money to spend $15 on it every month though that situation will likely resolve itself in short order. Of course the whole "time" issue is really subject to the whims of "The Missus" and some days it just isn't in the cards, you know?

Damn it I knew I shouldn't have read this thread.... I'm tempted to ask for one of those keys. I just checked the system reqs and it looks like I could run the game on my laptop with no problems at all. This only adds to the potential for playtime as my wife is a whole lot less annoyed if I am sitting with her playing on the laptop than if I am sitting upstairs playing on the desktop.

How many have you got Dv and DeAthe? I wouldn't want to take anything from somebody who would likely be a more consistent player but.... the urge to try it out has been rising for quite awhile.

Feign: My key is on it's way to you via PM.

But until you have the client and patches, don't start your account. Mord's been giving a play by play on his torrent dload of the .iso of the CDs, and he's making me wonder if sending you guys burned copies may not be faster. Wink

I've managed to secure a couple more keys if needed from guildmates, and I think there's at least one more floating around Osy. Wink

/me goes fishing.

Actually, the torrent download is going okay, wish it were faster. I'm getting 10/13 up/down and it'll finish in a few days Sad

Also, I've tried to download the patch archive several times and failed. The most I ever got was 50MB.

So I searched and found the following patch files, which I can host if necessary:
wow-1.2.1-patch-enus.exe
wow-1.2.3-enus-patch.exe
wow-1.2.4-to-1.3.0-enus-patch.exe
wow-1.3.1-to-1.4.0-enus-patch.exe
wow-1.5.0-enus-patch.exe
wow-1.5.1.4449-to-1.6.0-enus-patch.exe
wow-1.6.0.4500-to-1.6.1-enus-patch.exe
WoW-1.6.1.4544-to-1.7.0-enUS-patch_.exe
wow-1.7.1.4695-to-1.8.0-enus-patch.exe
wow-1.8.0-enus-patch.exe

I have no idea which ones I'll need.

Sorry for not posting, I've been levelling. Wink

I have a key up for grabs too. Smile

As for the monthly fee:
1) When you buy the box, you get the first month's play included.
2) The longer the subscription, the lower the overall cost.
3) DeAthe put it quite well. 10 USD is 1.5, maybe 2 hours' worth of movie. It's also a month of WoW, up to you how much you play.

I get to:
- quest
- hunt, fish, and cook food to heal myself and feed my pet sabertooth tiger
- create my own leather and mail armor (two chars, each creates one type)
- explore a huge world (it's enormous to me, and I'm just getting started!)
- enjoy an epic story
- auction off loot
- fly gryphons
- ride ships
- storm dungeons (indeed, I'm getting ready to go on my first "instance" soon)
- eventually join the Alliance forces in PvP warfare against the Horde to earn ranks and rewards
- mail loot between my chars (my Hunter Night Elf has no use for stone, but my mining Dwarf Warrior needs it)
- work in parties, especially with the mighty Glanadh guild (/me bows to Dvixen), which form at will
- run around and get killed with Dvixen Wink

To me, it's well worth it. Smile

Very easy game to pickup. Now that I've pretty much completed the starting area for my first character, I'm torn. I want to try out the other races, and check out their homes. But I also want to push ahead with my first character. A minor issue in the grand scheme of things.

Game runs great in Window mode, good for multi-tasking. Actually, it does something that NWN doesn't do: run windowed 1600x1024. That's fucking awesome, its a window that fills my screen width wise, but leaves some screen at the bottom or top. NWN always insists on going to full screen if you set the X resolution to the same res as your desktop. Sweet

Are there any more trial keys available? I have a few friends that might be interested. However, I agree that OSY members should have priority, so put this request at the bottom of the list.

So I assume that means the game supports widescreen resolutions like my laptops native 1280x768 res..... Very Happy
