Living with a 12" Pbook as a primary machine, the 15" Pbook has just become good enough to consider upgrading. At the very worst possible epoch in which to upgrade one's Pbook. Oh well, I never did have a sense of timing.

Other good stuff is that ECC has finally trickled down to the workstations. As a recovering ECC bigot, this makes me feel warm and contented inside. (Or perhaps that's the Talisker. Hmm.)

I think the Quads are neat, but everything else is complete meh. Bring on the Mactels!

Aperture looks frikkin sweet.

Now if only I had

* A dSLR camera
* Mac hardware to use it with (my PB scrapes in at the bottom of the min spec list)
* Any photographic talent whatsoever
* A compelling reason to drop $500 on it

I`d rush out & give Apple some $$$ immediately! Razz

What I really want is a single dual-core 970MP in a Shuttle-style case, with 2 PCIe slots & room for two 3.5" drives. And a sane price, of course.....

Please Steve! Please, pretty please with a cherry on top! The cheesegrater is too big; I`d have to get a 30" ACD to keep it in proportion.

Talisker is indeed yummy! mmmm..... I had a maclalcalinnn or something (I can never remember the name) single malt (not Macallan) and it was teh lovely. It's one of the few single malts stored in sherry casks (or whatever it's called) so has a sherry flavor, it's sweet, and the color is that of golden honey. It's a tad to thick and heavy to drink while one is out. I prefer Glennfiddich for that. The other one, sherry flavored, is great if you have a cigar, a lazy boy, and a great view and music to chill too.

If I remember the name, i shall post it, for you to either tell me you've tried it and agree that it is indeed a great single malt; or to go and try it and then come back and agree with me that it is indeed a great single malt. It's a win win situation!

Okay, I think what I had was the Mortlach (forget which year). I found this great website for single malt fanatics (such as myself) and they have a list of great single malts(personal opinion of website owner).
While i've tried various names on the list, it's a question of which year did I try that is important. Talisker i've had is 8 year and 10 year (iirc). I liked the 8 year one, while the 10 is good, but not the, 'ahhh... this is bliss!' reaction.

The Quads rock. That pretty much smacks the shit out of everything you can buy from a reputable OEM on the PC side. Of course there is always the dual core Xeons *cough* *cough*. There are always the dual core Opterons though.... I find it amusing that the Apple PowerPC line will be going out on a higher note than I think any of us expected though. I mean we all heard about the upcoming dual core 970fxs but did we seriously think Apple was going to use them? I know I didn't.

Man, it's a shame my original motherboard didn't hold out until now, rather than dying in March -- I would have tried to buy a new motherboard with PCIe slots rather than my hojillion useless PCI-X slots. Razz

These are nifty, but inferior to the Smamium processor that runs Studly OS!

I was thinking precisely the same thing! Only replace PB with iB which is waaaay below the min spec list.

I have a 12" screen as my only machine. Just put it close to your face, and it looks bigger!

With a swiss army knife, duct tape, and a whole lotta smam, I bet I could make that iBook of his run smoove like butter on a hot knife. If you doubt me, you obviously have no experience making a rocket launcher out of a pen and fertilizer.

Damn it Macgyver! Only I'm allowed to be the bastard here. Well, so is Mord; but a bastard can't be a bastard to himself, which is where I come in, and vice versa for Mord to me.

OW:

Interesting list. The author, like myself, seems to prefer the island malts.

I have yet to try the Mortlach, but I will report back when I have the chance some time.

Howdy!
