So I just bought an PowerMac from Ebay.
Unless the guy shafts me of course. But here's the machine details:
PowerMac G4 466
512MB Ram
60GB HD
Geforce 2 32MB
Zip 250
4x Pioneer DVD-R Writer
Adaptec 2930 SCSI + 1GB SCSI HD
(Price w/o shipping is like 368€)
Consider yourselves informed!

Cool. Tiger runs okay on a 400, so you should be fine with that. I think you'll get Quartz Extreme with that card, even.
And I bet that 1GB SCSI HD will come in REAL handy.

I totally forgot about that particular Penny Arcade strip. I should have listed it as among my favorites in the Fave PA thread.
How incredibly stupid of me.

That's pretty much the model I've got, only mine's a little slower and has some slow ass rage card. That said, it's running panther and really doesn't feel that bad. I'd probably replace my windows machine with it if I could just copy all of my crap someplace else first.

I saw a powermac with similair specs run at around 219 euro's. It still seems too much monies for the performannce.
Seems like a good machine.

It's the bare minimum to get it, if I believe Apple's intarweb presence.

From work I can 'borrow' another 6 GB or so

Bah, you obviously have NO idea how the German speaking ebay works:
1) Don't bid until the last minute.
2) Bid high.
3) Be frustrated and try a different auction
4) Go to step 1

It's a darn pain in the ass finding that one, I tell ya.
Mac and better are not the keywords one must use to find it, so I had to use google, but that gave me only the year, and then I had to look through the archives for it.
Thus I found the keyword. It is: Aromatic.

I just browsed the 'net a bit, wondering what cards will support teh coreimage, and it seems that one can flash cheap as fuck Geforce FX 5200's to work in Macs.

The 219 wasn't a auction, it was a sale in store.
I use FreeBSD on a daily basis, what does that make me? Another hobby of me is firing lasers at modified webcams and than analysing the data with Matlab.

Ugh. Matlab. I shortly will need to understand three dimensional elliptic Fourier transform code in Matlab.

It's great to win stuff you've wanted for a while, but didn't want to pay for.

Apparently the black iPod nano scratches easy. I don't know if Apple has fixed the problem, but at least take a little extra precaution if you want to keep the nano scratch free.

I held a nano for the first time over the weekend. Despite knowning the dimensions and weight, and reading about it in several articles, my wife and I were both shocked at how small it was.

Yeah, it must be the special easy scratch material it's made off that makes it cool. Not only does the iPod Nano look cool, it feels cool...
we are still talking about the iPod Nano right? Unless your wife copped a feel while you were checking out the iPod Nano.

I think someone said it's so small as to be impossible.
