I've got my eyes on a 42" Samsung DLP HDTV that's currently on sale at Best Buy and Future Shop for CDN$1800. I don't think I'll be buying it this year, but I figure next year the list price will go down to about that sum and I'll pick it up for less than that on sale. Or something similar. But in widescreen I think 42" is the sweet spot for my living room.

What are you other HDTV-ooglers looking at?

You know, I watched Alien in 70mm the other day and couldn't tell the difference from 35mm. I'm going to go watch Narnia in like 2k digital or whatever and see if it looks any different to film.

The difference between playing Shadow of the Colossus on my convex 27" SDTV and my friend Eric's 52" widescreen HDTV was nothing short of astonishing.

Perhaps we're coming at this with different aims in mind. Wink

In other news my RAID array seems able to sustain enough for uncompressed 720p HD, so I might do some work at that res.

No 1080 HD for a while though, 180 Mbytes/sec sustained per stream? Fuuuuck. I guess I could just get another four disk array like I have and hit about 190 total with a second fibre channel loop, but for serious work you want like half a gig per second from your disks. Fuuuuck.

Also my screen wouldn't be big enough and my poor dual 300 would probably wilt a bit.

I'd love to, but sadly, there is no money this year in the Reimer household for such nice toys... Sad Maybe next year.

Well, next year is only a couple weeks away, so, that's promising, eh?

HD is beautiful.

I recently received my new plasma, and then got the ol' HD cable to go along with it.

Hot hot hot hot.

And 360? Simply dreamy on it. Wow.

I highly recommend going to HD - the pictures can be so crisp and vivid, and widescreen simply cannot be beat.

I just got a Samsungs 46 inch dlp from last year. Haven't set it up yet though.

My problem with HDTV is the compression is very noticeable with my cable company. Almost kind of ruins it. Hopefully, that will change some day.

Plasma's a bit rich for my blood, but DLP hits the sweet spot. Very Happy

Cable in my house exists mainly for the kids and wife. I don't watch a lot of TV, and when I do I'm usually sitting with my wife while I'm on my laptop or something. The shows I do watch, I typically download and watch on the bus to work. Right now the only one I watch is Lost.

But I love watching DVDs, and so I'm very soon to be looking for a 50+ inch TV of some sort. I"m not that picky, mainly concerned with price. HD of some sort, not fussy about LCD, DLP, BBQ, or plasma.
