I just got finished reading this. As far as I am concerned something is better than nothing and given that the movie really was just another longer episode in the series.... I don't see a problem with it not hitting theaters.

Any amount or form of new Firefly is infinitely superior to no amount of new Firefly!

Firefly is too smart for the general public, therefore it will fail. Look at the box office receipts;

Budget: $39 million
Revenue: $37 million - includes overseas

Add DVD purchases and rentals and it will barely break even. Crying or Very sad

It might find second wind on DVD-- just like the series itself did!

Take our show, take our cast,
Show them out of order, all half-assed.
I don't care, there's DVD,
You can't take the show from me...

I dread to think how much the show itself cost. They shot it all on 35mm, and it's probably got more effects shots than any series ever.

I don't think it's all that smart, though. I think spaceships just scare Buffy people away.

I haven't seen the movie yet (please don't beat me!), but did it provide some 'resolution' to the series? Meaning, did it provide and 'end' per se or is it possible to continue with more movies/series/etc in the future?

I've heard the movie compared to "Return of the Jedi" and opinions include the possibility of going back and showing earlier events in future movies.

The movie resolves some things but it's not exactly Return of the Jedi in that there isn't a complete and total victory for the "good guys" at the end-- there's a victory, but many things still haven't changed. There's still the possibility of more adventures for the Serenity crew.

I'd say it's wide-open for a whole continuing storyline! I mean, the last scene of the movie, (or close to it...), Mal opens up a whole new sub-plot! And, of course, I'm sure there's plenty of room to go back and do a lot of stuff between the end of the series and the beginning of the movie.

Damn you, non-geek types who can't appreciate a great show! Damn you, I say!!

And yes, Harb, I'm sorry to inform you that the beatings will have to be carried out. Not seeing Firefly at least once in the theatre is second only to condemning the smam itself... <the crowd gasps and turns it's head at the thought> After if you are unlucky enough to draw Dread Mistress Dv as the executor of your punishment, then may God have mercy on your soul, if it is right that He should do so.

One half of me wants to start a Horde character just to see how the other half lives. The other half of me wants to wait for it to be a surprise for Ramistine.

Yeah, it's fun to make your first run through The Barrens, constantly looking out for Horde, even if you're not pvp-flagged. Flag yourself if you really want to heighten the tension. Very Happy

I was speaking more form an organizational point of view.....that the first Firefly movie could represent the (current) end of the series.

But of course you're right, theres all kinds of possibilities, and I welcome any and all.
