So I was sitting at home one day, looking at my Kraft American Pastuerized Process Cheeze Food, and it finally occured to me. American Pastuerized Process Cheeze Food is the GED of the lunch table. I have never been so dissapointed in a sandwich before.

Perhaps I will add more to this thread another time. Smile

Homer: Mmmmm...sixty-four slices of American cheese. Sixty-four *glomp*...sixty-three *glomp*

Hours later...

Homer: Two *glomp*....one *glomp*

Marge walks in

Marge: Have you been up all night eating cheese?

Homer: I think I'm blind.

*Mr. Burns and Smithers fall from the ceiling*

AYB has never understood scholastically underperforming people and the GED. He has known individuals that have put off finishing High School and planned on taking the GED, reguarding it as a true HS Diploma "Equivalent"

AYB reguards the GED as "graduating" HS with an 1.0 average, since those he knows who have one are general academic slough-offs. If you are a hiring manager who sees one guy with a GED and another with a B- or even C+ average in HS, without any other considerations, which one do you take?

As I have a high school diploma I have no need for a GED but it doesn't surprise me in the least that it's an academic joke.

You would, logically, choose the one with the HS diploma. But then the one with GED will sue you for civil rights violations. That gets Jesse Jackson on his side, (actually, that only happens if the case gets media attention, cause Jesse only does something if he can get his face on camera for it), and Jesse is shown on tv with a bunch of other people who have GEDs and they're all singing "We Will Overcome" and Jesse plees with the courts to force you to hire the guy with GED because his mama beat him when he was little and his daddy ran off with the circus and he is just trying to get by because "The Man" hasn't given him everything he ever wanted in life. The courts bend to Jesse's plea, not because it's right, but because they know that NAACP, the Rainbow Coalition, the ACLU, and Cindy Sheehan will harass them and everyone around them until they are removed from their position. You are forced to hire the guy with the GED, even though he is definitely under-qualified in every way. Your business suffers greatly because you have to train this guy and he doesn't have a clue what's going on, anyway. You lose thousands and thousands of dollars because your productivity goes down and "someone" is robbing you blind. Your company collapses and you file bankruptcy, never to run a business again. Meanwhile, the other guy that applied the job can't get a job because of all this kind of crap. He turns to a life of crime in order to keep his kids from starving, (he wasn't eligible for gov't support because his family made too much money way back when), is arrested and thrown in jail for life. His wife and kids move in with her mother.

So, in short, you hire the guy with the GED and wish the other guy best of luck... At least you avoid the legal fees that way.

Yes, but has that stopped anyone else? I guess my biggest beef with this is that I had a friend in HS that was a National Merit Semi-Finalist along with about 6 or 7 other classmates, but because he was a dark skinned American he got an extra bonus scholarship for being a dark skinned American and doing sooo well. What is right or equal about that?

Well, that's Highschool, not the real world

Hiring managers simply aren't bound by that sort of wind of political doctorine permeating from the great politician's playground that is the public school system (although many are certainly retarded or nutless enough to surrender to it). Also, did AYB bring race into it? AYB actually was thinking of the academicly lazy, not minorities. Most of the people AYB was personally thinking of were actually white.

Hate to burst your bubble, AYB, but with crap like Affirmative Action, hiring managers are subject to the same BS

It scares hiring managers, but in no way are they bound to hire a minority just because a minority applies, in fact, that's illegal. The way AYB sees it, Affirmative Action is either a legitimate avenue one can use to resolve discrimination or it's a socially backward organization bent on creating racial preference. AYB recalls that it's played both sides of this.
