ROFL:

However, he should mention something about being mean, and taking all Gaijins to a sushi bar to embarass them.

My step father did that, and I ate EVERYTHING. Cost him a TON of money, and I had the last laugh....

I seriously do not understand sushi. It's raw. Meat is not meant to be eaten raw; not even fish.

And in other seafood news, I had a 2.5lb lobster for dinner. Yum.

Learn Japanese the way I do.

Just subtitling "Yatta!" caused me to learn some of it.

My dad speaks 12 languages, Japanese amongst them ... he's says it's one of the harder ones. I've always wanted to learn it.

Unless it's battered and deep fried, raw is good.

I did gross out on the lobster sashimi in a restaurant.

They cut the lobster in half, while it's still alive, chop up the meat, and reasemble the thing, and serve it to you.

The front part antenna and eyes are still moving.Puke

They had to go.

However, I did eat the raw tail meat, and it was good.

Nice link!

I find that reading & writing are harder than speaking. For the latter, I just have to speak to someone; for the former, I have pick up & open a textbook, and actually try to learn something.

Mendokusai.

One of the good things about my job is that I get to practice spoken Japanese every day, with engineers & sales guys on the phone. One of the best things is that people generally have no clue what you're saying, and how well (or badly) you're saying it. I'm not fluent, but calling up the guys in Tokyo always impresses the customers, even if I'm actually talking garbage.

I am constantly reconsidering taking Japanese when I get to a uni that offers it. So far, i've always told myself so, but like most things, I plague myself (sometimes on purpose with the fundamental questions):

1) Will I have enough time to truthfully take this?
2) Will i have enough money to truthfully take this?
3) Will I actually USE the language outside of anime? (comes a debate w/ doing to Tokyo vs going to Berlin/Germany/Austria)

As I see it, japanese is equal to german in terms of hte answers to the questions, but since I watch anime, I've tipped more over to the japanese side.

Then again, learning german allows me to extend my "Mystical Trip to the UK"™ to include a cost effective trip to Germany.

Knowing german isn't always that useful when trying to speak to Swiss... (well, until you can persuade them to actually speak proper german, rather than schwiizerdüütsch).

Japanese is an incredible language.

I've been studying it for nearly 5 years now and can honestly say I know far too little...

Unless it is sword, armour or pre-Edo period, I get lost quite easily.
