Well, I've just shot my first 30 second clip (after I remembered to take the lens cap off!) Laughing

Here's how hard it was to export to iMovie:

1. Turn on camera. Rewind to beginning of movie.
2. Click on iMovie icon on iBook.
3. Connect Firewire cord thingy.
4. Press play on camera.
5. Press Import on iMovie.
6. There is NO... step number six.
7. Press Import again to stop.
8. Press STOP on camera.
9. Party like it's 2099.

Right now I'm exporting it to a Quicktime movie in MPEG4 format. Just because I can.

/me wants a DVD burner.

I have a DVD burner, and a DVD player that can read DVD-R discs. Twisted Evil

BTW, when I capture video from a DV camera over FW, I don't even have to hit Start or Stop on the camera. Software controls that. And I'm using Windows XP. Very Happy

But...but... iMovie!

incidentally, what software are you using on XP to burn DVDs? Can they be read in DVD players (like my PS2)? Because I have lots of video I want to convert, both analog and digital...

Currently I'm using Ulead DVD MovieFactory. Pretty cool, but IMO (as a P0w3r Us4r) it's a bit light on the customizability features in lieu of simple templates. It does an admirable job IMO, compared to some of the others I've tried (Sonic MyDVD: waaay to simplistic; can only put in chapter stops WHILE YOU'RE IMPORTING VIDEO! WTF? -- and Pinnacle Express 7: only imports AVI, not MPEG? WTF!?).

I'm still evaluating more and upcoming products for work use, as corporate gifts permit.

And in case I didn't mention it, my main need is to produce DVD-video discs that can be played in compatible players -- that's why I chose a DVD-RW recorder (over DVD+RW). At vcdhelp.com there is a great list of DVD players and what disc formats they're capable of playing (DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, VCD, SVCD, etc.) -- it's a GREAT resource for that info. I recently received a new Apex DVD player because my old Apex and even older Toshiba are incapable of playing any kind of recorded DVD discs. So check there to see if your current DVD player can play recorded DVDs!

Damn, my PS2 won't play VCDs at all! But it does DVD-RW and DVD+RW though. Guess I'll really have to buy a DVD recorder now!

It (compatibility to numerous formats) is an odd thing now... A coworker has 2 DVD players that are around 2 years old. They don't play VCD discs recorded on CD-R media, but they DO play VCDs recorded on CD-RW media. That left us literally with this expression: Confused

My brand new Apex plays SVCD format, but not the lesser (wrt size/quality) VCD format. But it plays DVD-R and DVD-RW just fine. Very Happy

BTW, this new Apex was $70US at a (god save my soul) Wal-Mart a month back. Fortunately I didn't have to buy it, as it was a gift -- I just had to carry it. Wink

Been using a camera almost indentical to that a lot lately (Canon MV450i). Nice ickle camera indeed. Does yours have the fiddly power connector with the rubber cover which gets mangled every time you close the screen? And the reeaally slooow eject mechanism on the underneath forcing one to remove one's camera from one's tripod in order to change one's tape? Been using it with Final Fuck Pro 2 on an old G4, which fair puts Premiere on a twice-as-fast PC to shame. Except when someone opens the G4 and dislodges the IDE cable of the drive from which FCP is playing its clips :-o
