I install NWN on my machine. It mentions, as it boots up(without giving me a chance to stop) that my drivers aren't "appropriate for this application". Then it dumps me into a black screen.

Ctrl Alt Delete. No chance.
Ctrl Escape. No chance.
Alt Escape. No chance.

I finally had to do a hard boot.

Uncrashable? Really? Uncrashable if you run what? Wordpad only? Crying or Very sad

ick.

And what happened when you connected to the machine through a network?

WTF are ctrl-escape and alt-escape meant to do?

Sounds like you need some proper video card drivers.

Yeah well, I got the new one from Nvidia in the machine already. 30.82's. The Dets aren't supposed to work with my TNT.

Peter, what are you talking about?

I was just going for a single player game.

They equal the Windows key.

Anyway, to call the taskmanager you can also use CTRL-SHIFT-ESC

Alt Esc minimizes the screen in 98.

Ctr Esc can terminate services in 98.

Neither works well in XP.

ctrl-alt-del is kind of universal in 2000/XP, if it doesn't work you're pretty much hooped. With Win98, pressing keys at random was your only hope.

I've had XP crash playing Ages of Empires, of all things. Driver-related. The BSOD even said it was driver-related. I think this is god's way of telling me to buy a new video card, personally.

30.82 /are/ Detonators.

I mean, you do get the joke, don't you?

TNT is an explosive. A detonator makes an explosive explode.

The question was perfectly clear. What happened when you connected to the machine through a network?

Quote:

No they do not. Ctrl-Escape brings up the Start Menu (and that's all; it's not like the Windows key, because you can't use it for hotkeys and so on). Alt-Escape sends the current window to the back of the Z-order.

But, again, I ask, what are they meant to do in this scenario?

Quote:
Alt Esc minimizes the screen in 98.

I haven't seen it do this, only send things to the back of the Z order.

Quote:
Ctr Esc can terminate services in 98.

Ctrl-Esc brings up the Start Menu. How that is to terminate a service, I don't know.

Quote:
Neither works well in XP.

Their function in XP is identical to that in 98.

Let it be know that neither X.2 or XP are uncrashable. I had a kernel panic hours after a clean install of Jagwire while trying to connect to a Windows machine. I had a BSOD while trying to get Battlefield 1942 to work, just hours after Jagwire flipped out. I was slightly miffed that night.

I can crash the mighty, untouchable, unfailable l00nix, so what.

And yes, nvidia drivers are shite.

Its stupid how much people praise them for trading image quality and stability for speed.

To be fair to Nvidia on the image quality front, some of the OEM's allegedly turn out good cards, it's only that Nvidia doesn't control what its customers do with its chipsets, and the Nvidia chipset market is filled with manufacturers who scrimp on quality to make an extra shilling. Combine that with the fact that it's nigh impossible to learn which cards have good pictures when reviewers are only interested in maximum framerates, then throw in bad drivers, and the end user has a very high chance of getting a crap card.

If I didn't just spend $350 registering my new car, I would have my 9700 now and never have to worry about NVidia shit again.

On that note, I finally blew up my XP box. Yep nearly 2.5 years later and I blow up my first XP box. The official release of SP1 happened over the weekend for us beta testers, so I went to uninstall earlier builds of the SP. No luck, for when I uninstalled it, XP went into a reboot loop... I was very pissed till I remembered the last time I installed a SP1 build, I did not backup the old stuff... so it was my fault...

meanwhile I finally got two matching 120 GB EIDE drives for my RAID and now have a nice 0+1 EIDE RAID going. XP seems to like it very much.

I'm talking about 3D Image quality, not fuckn 2D, nitwit.

In fairness, it wasn't clear to me either whether you meant 2D or 3D image quality.

I like nVidia but I wish they would release two different drivers: "fast" and "stable", instead of always pushing for the former at the expense of the latter.

I am still amazed at the difference in the GeForce 4 2D and that of the VooDoo 3 5500. The 5500's 2D quality kicks the GeForce 4's ass...

That wasn't the least bit clear from your post, fuckhead.
