I have used RedHat 7.3 and am using 8.0 beta 3 .. both nice distros, but 8.0 is pretty amazing. It detected all of my hardware, including my wireless NIC.
Never tried any of the BSD's .... couldn't comment.

Lycoris used to find the onboard sound on one of my motherboards (now expired, may it R.I.P.) when XP wouldn't. This was a very common C-Media sound chip.

Every time I try the default install of a newer distro of RedHelmet or ManDrake it seems much slower than the previous. Ber-Loat!
