Black Death was *not* caused by Buebonic as history has up to this point taught us. It's true. There's just no way that AYB can see it.

Wasn't the Plague caused by fleas, on rats, in *VERY VERY UNCLEAN* living conditions?

Buebonic is indeed a bacterial infection spread by the rat flea, which is why AYB doesn't think it could have caused the worst epidemic in recorded history. Black Death spread too fast even in rural areas where there just were very few rats. Rats would have had to scurry accross Europe in a well timed relay race coreographed by the Pied Piper in order to spread as fast (5km/day) as Black Death did.
Also, there is no mention at all of *rats* being the cause or vector of the disease back in the 1300s. Doctors back then may have been quite superstitious, but they could also see rats. AYB thinks that the interaction between midieval peoples and rats is vastly over stated. There is likely a similar people/rat ratio in most cities in the world right now than there was in 14th century Paris or London, and how often do people today come into contact with the environs of a rat?
Also, strangely enough, there were death records kept in many cities decimated by the Black Death, and it's apparent that by looking at dates of death, that the infection spread by social relations. A disease spread by pests would not likely do this. Black Death seems to be more of an unknown Virus like Ebola with a three week incubation time where the victim is contagious.
ick.

The Pope is not the leader of the Christian world, just the largest Sect of it. Also, the Big Bang is just a theory based on the observation that the Universe appears to be expanding (and is. AYB put up markers to measure one time).

Much more often then they'd like, probably. From horrifying personal experience, it doesn't take a lot to attract the fuckers, and once they're in a place it's very tough to get rid of them. And they can be very brazen. *shudder*

I believe Riso was referring to the passage where god "makes the Sun stand still in the sky." If the passage is figurative and god actually stopped the rotation of the Earth, there is no inconsistency.

I thought it was started by rats and perpetuated by by social interaction? All it would take was one infected flea/tick to bite a human or a couple of humans to start the chain-reaction.
And the human/rat ratio is probably similar to that of the Black Death era, but technology in homes and buildings as a whole has drastically changed, as have medical advances, so...

In another few smamillion-odd years, AYB thinks this is supposed to actually happen due to Tidal Breaking
Also, one huge problem with biblical language is a cultural meme issue of vast proportions. Western languages are very structural and sequential. Occidental languages (like Aramiac, Hebrew, Dreethan) are very wound into metaphore, or something like that. Let AYB draw your attention to that one episode of Star Trek-The Next Generation involving Picard's telling of The Epic of Gilgemesh or some stuff.

Wikipedia tells us this:
Historical records attribute the Black Death to an outbreak of bubonic plague, an epidemic of the bacterium Yersinia pestis spread by fleas with the help of animals like the black rat (Rattus rattus), although today's experts debate both the microbiological culprit and mode of transmission.

Right! Keep in mind here that I actually speak Arabic, though my vocabulary has atrophied through disuse. A good example is the oft-referenced verse in the Qur'an about martyrs being greeted in heaven by virgins -- the idea is that god, through Muhammad, describes heaven in terms that the audience (that being Muslim men in 600-700 AD) will understand. It is very difficult to properly interpret scripture -- or indeed writing in general -- without a cultural frame of reference.

Forget the virgin thing. It's a mistranslation. It is actually grapes.
Why? Because that part is written in Arameic, not Arabic!
Those stupid bums read it in the wrong language!
